Write Less, Earn More

Unmissable

Published 20 days ago • 2 min read

My apologies for the lack of correspondence these past few weeks, .

I’ve been busy with a lot of things, most of which I’ll share with you below.

But let's just backtrack a bit, so you know where I’m coming from:

I attended the SEO Mastery Summit in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam, early this month.

Being surrounded by successful people with blossoming careers and businesses normally would make me second-guess myself. Instead, it didn’t make me feel small at all.

In fact, they inspired me to do more and get more things done, not just for my clients but also for myself.

Here are some of the things I’ve done since then:

  • Created new services pages on my site catering to people looking for content and website auditing, as well as AI bulk content, services. I won’t link them here since this newsletter isn’t about promoting them. But you can check out the Services drop-down menu on my site. I am planning on promoting these pages very soon via paid ads.
  • Creating posts on LinkedIn designed to grow my influence and network. So far, they have increased my profile views from 10-20 a week to 60-80.
  • Aggresively publishing AI-generated content on Medium, Quora, and other platforms (including my website) to help increase my online visibility (following the “Be Everywhere” approach).
  • Engaging with my newly built network, I met during the conference to share ideas. I am not really aiming to turn them into clients, but it would be great if I could!
  • Cutting out gaming from my regular schedule. I just realized that 2 to 3 hours of playing Tekken 8 every night won’t get me anywhere in the world since I’m not really aiming to become a professional gamer. I decided it was best to spend my downtime doing the tasks above.

Money-wise, there aren’t any results from my efforts yet, but I hope something will come out soon.

So, what does this have to do with anything?

After 17 years as a professional writer, I feel like I’ve been spinning the wheels for the longest time—I’m not doing bad, but I’m not progressing the way I want to.

There were times when I felt primed to take the next step—back in 2022 when my writing business was at an all-time high. I worked with multiple clients and managing writers to help me complete the projects.

But ChatGPT happened in 2023, cutting my client base in half and, unfortunately, getting rid of some of the writers I work with. So did the Helpful Content Update in the same year and the March 2024 Update, rendering all my niche sites useless.

At this point, I was back to square one, personally working for clients just like the past 17 years again.

I’m sure I’m not the only one going through this ebb and flow in the industry. It is what it is—you must adapt to the changes.

And that’s what I’ve been trying to do these past few days.

Taking ownership and full responsibility of your actions and their results are the only ways that you can progress forward.

Doesn’t matter if you live in a third-world country, didn’t graduate high school or college, or have a sketchy past.

Stop putting yourself down and comparing yourself to more successful people than you. The real battle is the one within—that which keeps you achieving your goals and dreams.

To do that, you must make something out of yourself.

In other words, make yourself unmissable.

P.S.For freelance writers, expect something in your box from me that you will find useful when it comes to scaling your business. This pertains to knowing how much to charge client based on your needs and skill level.

Until then,

Keep writing!
Chris
