Write Less, Earn More

Treating yourself as the client…

Published about 2 months ago • 2 min read

Hello Reader!

As writers, we must find clients to work for on sites like Upwork, Legiit, Fiverr, and others.

After all, applying for positions that match your strengths and making money off them makes too much sense.

However, it stops making sense if your clients keep dropping you or are not actively sending you new work to write about.

There’s a good chance it could be a skill issue.

I mean, you can’t work for and retain clients if your writing skills are below their standards.

But if you know how to write well and optimize your content for search engines, this shouldn’t be a problem.

The problem now is the market demand.

In my previous email, I mentioned that some online publishers are now using AI content to produce articles and blog posts.

Maybe some of your clients went the way of AI content generators.

Sadly, you can’t blame them due to the advantages they present, regardless of how you feel about the quality of content they produce.

However, here’s a thought…

Have you ever considered that, instead of looking for clients to work for,

It’s actually YOU who’s the client you should be working for?

Okay, let me explain…

Instead of constantly piggybacking off people’s websites and creating content for them, how about:

  • You create a WordPress site of your own.
  • Decide on a topic to write about on your website (particularly something you’re an expert on).
  • Research for keywords to target your content the right way.
  • Write them one by one, following the best on-page optimization practices.
  • Link the relevant site pages with each other to strengthen topical relevance.
  • Once your site starts generating traffic, you can apply for a Google AdSense or Ezoic account to display ads.
  • Join affiliate programs for products or software you believe in and promote them on your site.
  • Keep creating new content or edit old ones.

The goal is to increase your site’s organic traffic to boost online visibility.

This way, you can show your display ads to more people and improve your chances of converting visitors into buyers of the affiliate products you’re promoting.

Both help you earn more from your website!

To help guide you in this process, I wrote a short piece on my blog detailing the steps you must take to create your site:

Building this takes time, I know. As simple as this process sounds, you must apply yourself 100% to this initiative to maximize your earnings.

Some of you may be scared of doing this work and prefer waiting for clients to pay them for their writing services.

But ask yourself this:

Are you okay just sitting on your ass waiting for clients to notice you (which may not happen)?

Or do you want to get up on your ass and do the work so you can foolproof your writing businesses?

In case it wasn’t obvious to you before, you can also use the website you just built as a portfolio to help communicate the effectiveness of your writing to clients.

In a way, creating a site works both ways as a revenue-generating and lead-building strategy.
