I’ll cut right to the chase: AI content Creating content using AI has pros and cons, depending on where you stand. From a business standpoint, creating long-form articles about topics for your clients is much easier. It’s also much cheaper. You can generate content in minutes for $20/month and a few prompts. Granted, you’ll have to edit the content to meet your publishing standards, which could take hours. In other words, AI content won’t produce perfect content 100% of the time. However, the foundation is there, which beats writing the content from scratch. Site owners can hire editors to fix the content before queuing it up for publication. On the downside, AI content generators leave writers like me to lose a fraction of their clients. If you put yourself in a business and site owner's situation, AI content is an attractive alternative to hiring writers. It is more affordable and gets the job done instantaneously—no need to wait for writers to produce the content. And it’s disheartening for site owners to discover that the writers are also using ChatGPT and others to write the content! While I have objectively appreciated what AI content generators bring to the table, I can’t help but feel a bit of contempt for AI content. When AI content exploded at the beginning of 2023, I lost x% of my revenue compared to the previous year. Coincidence or not, AI content has changed the online publishing landscape. That said, writers like us are put in a sink-or-swim position. We can abandon online writing altogether and look for other revenue and income streams outside of writing… Or we can continue fighting the good fight, finding ways to provide value to our target audience as writers despite the obstacles along the way. To put things into perspective: I’ve been a writer for more than 16 years. I’ve seen the ebbs and flows in digital publishing and online freelance writing. Article spinning software, $5 writing services, the early years of Jarvis (then Conversion.ai) are just obstacles I had to overcome to get where I am right now. And as much more advanced AI content is compared to other movements and tools out there… This is but another setback to your journey towards writing success! While 2023 was not a fun year professionally, moments during that time gave me hope as a writer moving forward. Suffice it to say that there’s still lots of money to be made as a content writer! I wrote a post on Legiit detailing my journey last year and what I did to recover my lost income. You can take inspiration from my advice or try it out. From here, how you approach your online writing career is up to you. But if there’s one thing to take away from here, it’s this: Keep writing! Chris |
